Episode 24: Stray Cats / Built for Speed
Jul 25, 2018
Jul 25, 2018
1hr 7 min
Todays rhetoric revolves around a rockabilly sound that captured the masses. This was the first US release by the Stray Cats. The tracks on this album come from two previous releases in the UK. Six from Stray Cats and five from Gonna Ball with the title track not having been a UK release. They produced some great music and played an edgy style that appealled to many especially our esteemed Kingcow. Give it a listen, pretty sure you will find the "coolness" in the Stray Cats.

Vinyl Rhetoric is pleased to present the album State of Shock by Ted Nugent. This is the fifth solo album of the hard rock protagonist. His hard charging style lent to some great music and even better live performances. This 1979 release continued to showcase the raw energy that was the Motor City Madman. Put on the headphones and get ready to rock.

By this time the band had grown to a six piece group that contained several classically trained musicians which added a dense and complex sound to their already unique style. We hope that you resonate with the quality provided by ELO. Please accept this offering as a token of our appreciation of great muisic.

Episode 21: AC/DC / If you want Blood

Today, we present the incomparable AC/DC. As live albums go this is no different, in that the recording can be a bit suspect. But, for 1978, it is still rather solid. What makes this one of Blobs favorites is the outright energy they brought to this recording. Mostly recorded in Glasgow, Scotland, this high energy band brought it all when they played. The Blob hopes you find this as stimulating as he does. So without any further delay.....

Our first soundtrack is a spectacular show both on stage and in the theaters. This episode has Kingcow smiling from ear to ear. If you have attended a showing of this production you'll know exactly what he means as his description is rather detailed and he brings it to life. If, like the Blob, you were never exposed to this show I think you will appreciate the rhetoric which provides a unique look at an entertaining musical.

In this episode, the Blob introduces some incredible music from the group, Traffic. This is Steve Winwood at some of his finest. The music and lyrics capture some very esoterical subjects with the titile track derived from the 1600's. Please enjoy this album in the spirit of its making.

On this 4th of July, we want to wish everyone in the US a safe and happy time. With that, episode 18 has brought us to the Thompson Twins. Originally formed in the UK in 1977, playing a new wave type of music, they switched, in 1983, to a more pop sound. This garnered a greater audience in the clubs of the time. From 1982 through 1986 this 3 person line up was the mainstay and as such produced a string of hits in the US, as well as the UK, with success globally. From the vault of Kingcow, enjoy.

Today's episode comes to you fom the archives of the Blob. This band was a favorite local Bay Area performer that he experienced several times. Although this group may/should have risen to great heights, they vanished without much fanfare. This album is the only one ever released by the band. The Blob hopes you enjoy listening as much as he enjoyed presenting it. And if by chance you own this album, you may want to check its value.

This quartet and album need no introduction. Suffice it to say, that the change in their style provided listeners with a unique experience from an experimental perspective. Please enjoy this side of Sgt. Peppers as much as we did.

Episode 15: Mahavishnu Orchestra / Birds of Fire

Todays selection is brought to you from the Blob's archives. This is jazz-fusion from the mind of John McLaughlin. Although rock oriented, this album is seriously jazz influenced. Appearing musically disjointed, the intensity is strangely comforting. This unique style of arrangements could change so drastically that you might hit your head on the glass during a turn. This was one of Blob's favorites. Put on some headphones, grab your favorite beverage, lay back and be amazed.
