Episode 102 : The Cars / The Cars (S/1)

Here is the debut album from The Cars. Although it is billed as a new wave group it has a sound that the Blob felt was more rock than that. Ric Ocasek and the boys produced a sound that saw the album remain on the charts for 139 weeks. Give a listen and let the good times roll!

Episode 101: RHCP / The Uplift Mofo Party Plan

This album will go to the island with the Blob as he enjoys their funky sounds from their earliest days. This is their third studio album but the first to feature all four original members. Although less commercially successful than the following album, Mothers Milk, this album displayed the sounds associated with the original lineup and, in Blobs opinion, provides the basis for their continued success today. This is the fifth and final studio album from The Police. It is their most successful, sporting several chart topping songs. Rolling Stone named it Album of the Year in 1983 and it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009. Widely acclaimed by critics each song was seen as a mini soundtrack. Episode 97: The Band / The Last Waltz

Recorded Thanksgiving Day 1976 at the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. Billed as the final show for this tremendous group it was who's who of the rock scene at the time. Guests like Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, and Neil Diamond joined the festivities. Also filmed, the show became a documentary released in 1978 by famed filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Give it a listen and if you want to see what some hail as the best music documentary give it a view. This album can be seen as a transitional one between the heavy metal sound of their first two albums and the beginning of the radio-friendly direction of later releases. The album featured heavy metal rockers such as "Rock! Rock! til you Drop", "Stagefright" and "Die Hard the Hunter" as well as Top-40 hits "Photograph", "Rock of Ages" and "Foolin'. This album found mainstream success upon its release in 1983.
